Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born October 20, 1964, she is the 49th Vice-President of the United States. Harris is the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as being the first African American and second Asian American vice president. She is a part of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. In addition, she served as an United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. After establishing her career as an Alameda County District Attorney Harris was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Later she became the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003 she was elected the city's district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010 and reelected in 2014. From 2017 until 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the 2nd African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator she advocated healthcare reform, federal descheduling for cannabis, a pathway for immigrants who are not legal citizens as well as the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also supported progressive tax reform. She earned national attention for her pointed questioning of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings, which included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who was accused of sexual assault.
